Wer bist Du, was machst Du und woran arbeitest Du gerade? Would you tell us who you are and what you’re currently working at?
I am Anna Kiryakova, a bulgarian artist working and living in Kameruner Straße. I started studying fine art at the age of 14 in a special art gymnasium in Bulgaria, no such place exists anywhere else, and later I was accepted in the National Academy of fine Arts where I have studied for 6 years ceramics and finished my studies with a master degree. In the beginning I was working on large skulptures but with the time my works started to become smaller and smaller and since four years one might call them jewelry.
At the moment I am working on some pieces for an order from a gallery in London. So I am building spikes and cutting edges with surgical knives, fireing pieces and hammering silver.
Warum Wedding? Why Wedding?
In the last seven years I moved around a lot together with my boyfriend. First to Stockholm than back to Bulgaria, for some time to a small place in the south of Germany and than we finally decided to come to Berlin. At that time I did not know anything about the city structure, Sofia has a very different construction and concept, at least 7 years ago. The first month in Berlin we stayed at the place of a friend in Schoeneberg but it was just too nice there for me. I could not imagine to work there, so Johannes, my boyfriend, suggested that we can try Moabit or Wedding. The first time coming to Wedding was the moment i felt like home and the first “place-studio-home” we looked at was the right one, so it was the perfect chemistry. I like every morning to face the real life and real stories of real people. These are proper ingredients for my existence and work.
Was ist Dein Lieblingsort im Wedding? What is your favorite place in Wedding
The favorit place for me is always and all time of the year, summer, autumn, winter and spring, Plötzensee, I live about 10min. on foot from the lake and I am totally in love with it. A favorite place for a drink and amazing music is Bei Ernst, there is every saturday a jam session with fantastic jazz musicians.
